Get Involved

The Sundre & District Museum is deeply grateful for the dedication and generosity of our volunteers and donors. Their contributions of time, expertise, and financial support are the backbone of our operations. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to offer the wonderful experiences and services that benefit our guests and community. Our volunteers and donors truly are the heart of the museum, and we are incredibly fortunate to have such a committed and talented team. To all our volunteers and donors: thank you for making a difference!

Volunteer

The Sundre & District Museum is always seeking enthusiastic new volunteers to join our team! Our volunteers are the heart of our rural museum, contributing approximately 2,500 hours annually in roles such as administration, research, event planning, programming, guest services, tour guiding, exhibit building, landscaping, and serving on our governance board. By volunteering, you’ll become part of a supportive, like-minded community, meet new people, and make a meaningful impact in Sundre. We encourage volunteers to share their time, skills, and ideas to help us grow. If you’re interested in joining our team, fill out an application form today!

Memory Fence

What began as a humble fundraising initiative has blossomed into a stunning outdoor exhibit and legacy project. This beautiful metal perimeter fence showcases the talents of local metal artists while preserving the individual histories of Sundre families. Families purchase a panel from the museum, then collaborate with artists and museum staff to create a custom design that tells their family’s unique story. The result is a lasting tribute, ensuring your family's legacy will be remembered for generations. Open year-round and free to the public, the Memory Fence stands as a symbol of community, history, and creativity.

Mural Donations

This collaborative initiative brings together the museum, local businesses, families, and artists to create stunning outdoor murals. As a unique fundraising opportunity, it highlights the talents of our region’s artists while telling the fantastic stories of Sundre’s families, industries, and local themes. Donors purchase a 4x8 panel, and together with the museum and a selected artist, they create a custom piece of wall art. These murals are displayed year-round on the exterior of our Niels Eskesen Reception Center, offering a vibrant showcase of creativity for all to enjoy.

Collections

The Sundre & District Museum Collection is determined by geographical borders.  There were 15 one room schools which served the local community districts. Over time those historical one room schools were closed and their students came to the Town of Sundre.  Today, these 15 school districts make up the collection borders of the Sundre & District Museum.

There is a process by which an artefact donation enters the museum.  It is a detailed and legal process which requires official documentation and committee approval.  If you feel you have something the museum would like in their collection, please view the attached letter and quick checklist.
